Many, many, MANY books have been adapted to the big and small screen, and I will admit, I enjoyed many of them. When I saw this topic, these were the first ten YA adaptations that popped into my head, but they are by no means all the ones I loved.

I've enjoyed a lot of book to movie adaptations. However, I always think that the books are better than the movies. My favs are The Divergent Series, The Fault in Our Stars, The Harry Potter Movies, and The Hunger Games Series. I want to read and then see, Five Feet Apart. I recently bought the book, and have heard it being compared to The Fault in Our Stars. Great Picks Sam!

There were a few adaptations, where I thought they made some smart choices. Me, and Earl, and the Dying Girl stands out for me in this way. The author also wrote the adaptation (I think he did just about everything to bring that book to the screen), so it was very true to the book, but he made a few changes to make the MC more likable.
DeleteTo All the Boys is a definite favorite of mine. I thought they did movie so well!!
ReplyDeleteThey really did a wonderful job with that adaptation. I did miss all the sister stuff, but I the focus on the romance was done really well.
DeleteOmg Angus, thongs! That movie was so funny and I adored the books as well when I was younger. I really liked what they did with Dumpling and To All the Boys as well!
ReplyDeleteAngus cracked me up. The actress really embodied Georgia and I had the best time watching it. The soundtrack was amazing too. (I own it)
DeleteOOh nice ones! I find there's only a few adaptations that I truly enjoyed. Harry Potter being the bulk of them, though those weren't totally perfect either. Lol. Nice picks!

I have seen the HP movies, but will never read the books. I thought the films were very entertaining though.
DeleteI loved To All The Boys so much (but I only watched the movie, I didn't read the book). I haven't watched any of the others yet but Dumplin is on my list.
ReplyDeleteThey did a nice job with Dumplin. I was crying at the end. It was very moving and feel good. All the Dolly music made it that much better too.

I don't watch a ton of TV/Movies. The last three movies I saw were all adaptations, and I only watched them, because I had loved the books.

DeleteThere are several up there that I read the book, but haven’t seen the movie yet. I adored Me, Earl and the Dying Girl. I can’t believe I haven’t seen the movie.
ReplyDeleteThe adaptation of Earl is even a little better than the book. The one big smart thing Andrews did, when he wrote that screenplay, was making Greg a bit more likable.
DeleteAhh this is such a great list! I loved the To All The Boys adaptation, I thought it was done really well. I really liked the movie Dumplin, but I haven't read the book just yet, I really should :D

DeleteWe watched Everything, Everything without me reading the book first. My husband guessed pretty early on what was going to happen!
ReplyDeleteI guessed too, but I never feel like that dampens my enjoyment. I loved the book, and they did a great job with the adaptation. The actors were so well cast, the soundtrack, the costuming, even the set choices were so well done.

ReplyDeleteFlipped I have no idea what it's about, but what a cute cover!
Flipped is so sweet and adorable. It's kind of a coming of age, and you see how the two main characters begin to see the world differently via their personal experiences, but it's also a bit of an upper middle grades romance.

ReplyDeleteI want to see The Sun is Also a Star just because I am hoping the same team that did Everything Everything is involved. The movie was cast well, dressed well, scored well. I approved of the choices they made from page to screen on that one.
DeleteI've only read Everything, Everything and haven't watched any of these movies. Epic fail!
ReplyDeleteI have to say, it was one of the better adaptations. I think they tend to do a better job with contemporaries. Maybe because they don't have to translate so much of the world and its rules to the screen.

ReplyDeleteYou have to watch Dumplin'. They did a wonderful job with that adaptation. I shed happy tears at the end, and I felt so good after watching it. The soundtrack made it that much better too.

It's funny, my daughter watch TATBILB and then read the book, and was a little disappointed with Peter K, because he was way more swoony in the movie.
DeleteI've read all the books but only watched Dumplin'. I don't watch a lot of movies overall, and I get annoyed with the things that get lost in adaptations
ReplyDeleteI am not a big TV or movie watcher, but I did seek out these adaptations, and I was really happy with them. Choice have to be made, and some really smart ones were made with these films.
DeleteI actually thought Earl was better as a movie than a book. I would have chosen that one, too!
ReplyDeleteAndrews made a good decision, when he made Greg more likable for the movie. Perks and Earl definitely benefited from the authors having so much involvement in the adaptations. I believe they both wrote the screenplays.

ReplyDeleteI did notice that some events were out of order and maybe, if I am remembering correctly, might have come from other books (?), but it was all fine with me, because the actress did a phenomenal job capturing Georgia's spirit and it was a really fun film (great soundtrack too)

DeleteI think there are a lot of books to movies/tv series out there and I love a lot of them. My favorites are The Shining, Everything Everything, Dear John and Outlander. There are many others but it's great that we get so many movies this way.

The Shining was terrifying. All King's movies scared me. I could never bring myself to read his books
DeleteThe Fault in Our Stars was certainly a sad book to read and I don't know if I will watch the film. Cancer is something I try to stay away from in books and films these days as it triggers bad memories.

The TATBILB adaptation was well done. I think the more successful ones actually ask for some input from the authors. They did trim so of the stuff from the book, but their retained the spirit of the LJ and the story.
DeleteI loved the adaption to Wonder and think it is done incredibly well. I wasn't a huge fan of the fault in our stars but found that the movie was really good, so that is another adaption I am a huge fan of. I also love the adaptions for Love, Simon and The Help!!
