My Week in Review
Happy Sunday! Can you believe it's almost July??? I feel like June sped. I didn't really do anything...at all, but it was over in a blink. I am hoping the weather forecast changes, but right now, it's showing three over 100°F days. I am worried about getting stranded at work. The trains always have issues when it's too hot or too cold.
What did I do last week? Sunday, I took my parents out for dinner. The rest of the week was work and more work. Yesterday, we tried a new restaurant. It's had a lot of Polish and eastern European food. I was very happy. My heart still yearns for a good German restaurant. I was reading an article about NYC and the world cup, and it had Germans listed as the second highest diaspora in the city. Why didn't any of them open a restaurant? I need to get the kid on that for her next visit.
I didn't expect it, but my daughter surprised me when she planned a trip here in July. I always love to see her, and we have plans to see a show in the city. Something to look forward to. We are nailing down plans for my September visit too. Have to get reservations for tea at the Hello Kitty Cafe and purchase our tickets for the Pokemon exhibit. We are going to see a show too. It should be a wonderful weekend.

So, I saw Polo Fever on Netgalley, and while I was gathering information about it, I found out that Katherine Reilly is one of four pen names used by Katy Birchall! I had to request and was very happy to be granted access to the ARC. Though, after I requested, I realized my library had this book, AND I already had a hold in. Oh, well.

Read Last Week
This was a pretty great week. I read FOUR books that rated 4.5 stars. Not too shabby.
Rosie Walsh continues to keep me guessing. I love her blend of romance and mystery. Her books always have a couple in love and then SOMETHING happens to tear them apart. That's the story, and I was surprised when all was revealed in The One Day You Were My Husband.
I had a feeling Whiskey Chaser would be a hit for me since Lucy Score was involved. She writes the best small towns filled with quirky characters and zany families. I adored meeting the Bodines. What surprised me was the suspense element AND the fact that the mystery will stretch across the entire six book series. I guess that's just more motivation to read the rest of the books.
And once again, Bailey and Brunner presented me with a wonderful sports romance. I was a big fan of this group after reading the previous book, and it was a thrill to get to know Penn better. As expected, the story was fun, but it also showed how complex Penn was.

I can't believe it's already almost July as well! Time is really going and with that the temps also seem to be soaring, even in the tropics where it's already hot, it's getting even hotter. 🥵 Hope we all manage to stay cool. Your trip in September sounds super fun and I hope you get reservations for the Hello Kitty Cafe and the Pokemon exhibit! I'm also very excited for the new Ashley Poston, she's always a good time read. Honestly, 450+ page contemporaries have put me off a lot recently. 😅 Does this romance *really* need to be that long? I hope you enjoy it though!
ReplyDeleteIt's odd to have a contemporary exceed 400 pages. They don't have to build a world or a magic system. I always feel these books could be trimmed.
Delete100°F? It sounds like this darned heatwave (if you can call that a thing that lasts for weeks) is everywhere. Europe is affected as well, and at the moment I have more than 30°C (86°F) at home. We're looking at a slight temp decrease starting from Tuesday. About time...
ReplyDeleteYay for the kid making a surprise visit!
They are talking 106. I am still holding out hope that could change. That's balckout temperatures. I will cry if we lose power. I hope the cool weather comes your way
DeleteIts great that your daughter is coming for a visit. I'm surprised there aren't more German restaurants in NYC. My dad grew up in a German neighborhood and there were some small, local authentic German places in the neighborhood. He loved it.
ReplyDeleteThere are beer gardens with pretzels and potato pancakes, but I want the stuff my grandma made.
DeleteHappy Sunday, Sam. I can't believe the year is almost half over. I will check out your review on the Lucy Score book. I have enjoyed several of her books in the past. I traveled to Halifax this past week. 3 days of driving, 2 flat tires, and 4 new tires and I'm here enjoying their company. Have a wonderful week, and stay cool.
ReplyDeleteOh, my! Sorry to hear the roadtrip had some bumps. Tires are so expensive too. I hope the rest of the trip was great though.
DeleteThe Hello Kitty Cafe sounds fun. Have a great week.
ReplyDeleteIt's so cute! I hope you have a great week too
DeleteI hope the heat doesnt leave you stuck at work.
ReplyDeleteI’ve heard of Poston but not Tomforde. I hope you enjoy them both.
Thanks for sharing your week.
I have gotten stuck before for like 3 hours. I am crossing my fingers all goes well this week.
DeleteGood luck with the heat Sam! We had so much of that last week. I am exhausted!
ReplyDeleteI am tired just thinking about it.
