Last year, I read and LOVED Ernshaw's debut, The Wicked Deep, and when I heard she had a new book featuring witches, I instantly wanted to read it. I know, it's odd, because it sort of out of my "zone", but having had previous success with the author goes a long way. It also currently has 89 ratings with an average rating of 4.18 - not too shabby. One thing I loved about Ernshaw's previous book was the way she incorporated the island into the story. From the synopsis, it sounds like she has created another fantastic setting, which I really want to explore. Witches, secrets, magic -- I'm in!

This book made its way to my TBR a few years ago, so, when I saw it on sale, I grabbed it. Alas, it sat, unread, though I read other Wilde books in the meantime. Now that I am making a genuine effort to read my shelf books, I quickly put this one on my weekly TBR. I remember everyone gushing about this book, and it features friendship, romance, and a con. All are elements I tend to enjoy, and I trust that Wilde will make this a con to remember.

DeleteI hope you like Queens of Geek! I liked it- it wasn't a 5 star for me necessarily- but I enjoyed the characters and there are some very nice moments. I want to read more books set at conventions too!
ReplyDeleteWith the number of books I read, I accept that all won't be 5-star reads, but I am happy with my 4-star majority. It's all about being entertained and feeling something for me. Maybe I will do a con book theme week. Hmmmmmm

Ernshaw's debut made me curious about this book, because it was a total success for me. Early reviews have been great for Winterwood as well.

DeleteTHE WICKED DEEP WAS REALLY GOOD!! I'm with you about Winterwood. I'm also excited for this book and TWD was interesting enough to make me want to read another Ernshaw book. I miss reading an enjoyable fantasy book that at the same time is dark (okay not THAT dark but TWD wasn't sunshine and rainbows)
ReplyDeleteI am such a straight forward writer, but I fall hard for pretty prose and mood, and Ernshaw did that so well in her debut. TWD was a bit dark, but it had enough "light" and hope for me.

Love the cover of Winterwood! And I can’t remember the last time I read a story about witches. For some reason, despite not really being a fantasy reader, I’ve always found stories about witches/witchcraft intriguing.

ReplyDeleteQoG was good. I enjoyed it. Though there is quite a bit of romance and dealing with fandoms, this was also a story of friendship, and these three had a great friendship.
