My Week in Review
The best thing about this week is that I have a three-day weekend. Yahoo! It's been so slow at work, like, painfully slow. This always happens during the summer months, but I guess the upside is that I have more time to read.
Speaking of the warm weather....I may not make it through the summer, if the ice cream man keeps parking near my home. That dopey song playing over and over again is driving me mad!
To everyone heading to Book Expo and BookCon next weekend - I hope you have an amazing time. I gave up on Book Expo after they ruthlessly raised the blogger ticket price back in 2017, but I have always loved BookCon.
The look on this cat's face cracked me up.....

What I Am Currently Reading
I am saying it right now - if this is the kind of story Forrest likes to tell, I am in for all her books. I am enjoying I Wanna Be Where You Are so much. It's fun and sweet and adorable and I believe I will have it finished before this post goes live, because I just want to keep reading it.
Hook Shot is delivering what I have grown to expect from Ryan - a sexy, emotional, messy, and dramatic story. I was pretty excited when Grip, Bristol, and Jade made an appearance. I love crossovers.

How was your week?
Let us know in the comments!
Happy long weekend! And ooh no, not the ice cream truck. Oh those tunes can stay in your head and drive you nuts haha!
ReplyDeleteI always thought BookCon sounded fun...
Do Your Ears Hang Low is stuck in my brain forever! BookCon is fun. Chaotic, but fun. I really enjoy the panels, and that is where I spent the majority of my day, but my BookCon partner is in Chicago now, and I hate doing stuff like that alone.
DeleteThanks for including my post! And I can see how that tune would drive you crazy! Have a good week and enjoy your new books.
ReplyDeleteYou're welcome! Yeah, it's going to be a long summer if that truck keeps parking nearby.
DeleteThat kitty clip is joy!
ReplyDeleteWe have a three day weekend too and I'm so excited! Hope you have a good one.
The blissed out look on that cat's face is the best! Enjoy your long weekend!
DeleteYay for a three day weekend!! I'm going to Bookexpo but kind of nervous about it all. So much to know for schedules and logistics of getting and carrying all those books. Anyways enjoy your new books and reading. Have a great week!
ReplyDeleteI did BookExpo a few times, but let's be honest, I don't like to read physical books, so there really is no other point for me. They don't have panels like BookCon does. It was just a lot of standing in line and fighting the crush to get the books. I was salty when then doubled the blogger price too. Don't know if that has changed, but it was the reason only Kiersten went in 2017. I hope you a good time, though. Bring a roller bag, and you can pay a few dollars to check it. They let you "visit" your bag during the day, and you can drop books off then. Planning is the most important part. If there are books you really, really want, make sure you are in those lines early. Kiersten was a master planner, and we always got all the books we went there for.
DeleteI've only ever been to one BEA and that was in 2016. I just can't afford the flights for NYC. Chicago was sooo much easier for me. I am so sick and tired of all these events always happening on one coast or another. It makes it impossible for a Midwestern blogger to go anywhere. Flights are not cheap flying out of my neck of the woods, and there's hardly ever a direct flight for me either so that's more time I need off in order to travel too. I wish they could've at least kept this one in Chicago, but apparently there was a huge fuss about it being in Chicago that year so it seems like it will never return.
ReplyDeleteNice new reads! Those are new to me ones but I hope you will enjoy them!
Here's my StS
Have a GREAT day!
Old Follower :)
I was there in 2016. I actually had to do the flight thing for the first time for BEA. It was much smaller that year, but still chaotic. I think the "fuss" was more with the number of publishers located in NYC. Even though BookCon/Expo is relatively close for me, the need to be in line at the crack of dawn made me almost want to try and get an overpriced hotel room.
DeleteBwahahaha that pet dryer seems to be pure bliss Sam! And I get what you mean with the ice cream man. Repetitive noises or songs or are grating on my nerves too! I swear I would confess immediately if someone used to let one drop fall again and again and ....Gaaah! Have a great week (sans ice cream man)
ReplyDeleteI hope that at some point in my life, I experience that level of bliss. Apparently, the ice cream man is playing my neighborhood every night between 7 - 8 pm. He needs to sell his ice cream and move it along.
DeleteHahaha! We have an ice cream man who's started coming around too. Every time my husband and I just stare at each other and wait to see if either of us will give into temptation. So far we've resisted! XD Have a great week!
ReplyDeleteI refuse to give that loitering ice cream man one penny! It cannot possibly be ok that he parks for that long.
DeleteThe hedgehog looks so adorable!
ReplyDeleteSo happy you enjoyed LL's book! I loved that one a lot!
Those ice cream trucks' music can really get to a person 😂 I hope he changes directions and doesn't go near your house.
have a lovely long weekend!
Genesis @ Whispering Chapters
If the truck just moved along it would be great, but it's parking, which I don't get, because I don't live near a park or anything. Makes no sense. I always enjoy LL's books. They are fun with some feels and a great cast. She is an auto-read for me.
DeleteI'm so excited for the 3-day weekend! We even got an early start because the power went out at our office on Friday morning.
ReplyDeleteNice! The universe said you needed an even longer weekend. That happened to us once with some septic backup. They had to evacuate our building because of the gas being pushed back up through the pipes. It was a nice little gift to get to go home right after I got to work.
DeleteI love the Yoda faced cat! I've never been to BEA and it's too bad they hiked the ticket prices. Book bloggers are too important. One time when I was practicing my piccolo with the windows open, the neighbor boy across the street came running out with his money, singing, "ice cream man is coming!" His mom had a hard time convincing him it was only me practicing.
ReplyDeleteThat piccolo story is awesome! I think we are born knowing the call of the ice cream truck.
DeleteHope you enjoy your day off!! I'm not making it out to BEA this year either because I'm already paying for writing conferences--just can't afford to do both!
ReplyDeleteNicole @ Feed Your Fiction Addiction
Even though I can commute on a daily basis, when they raised that fee to $300, I was out. Because it's not just the cost of the ticket. It's the train, the food, the checking of bags, etc. I do wish I was going to BookCon though, because I enjoy the panels, but I don't like to do large, chaotic events alone.
DeleteFun cat video. I remember how excited I was to hear the ice cream man. Now it is just annoying for me too. So many fun looking books. I'm looking for some new authors to try.
ReplyDeleteRight? It used to be the siren's call, and now it works my last nerve.
DeleteOh, no! Are you at least buying some ice cream? LOL
ReplyDeleteHe will get not one cent from me!!! =)
DeleteI've always dreamed of being able to go to Book Expo and Book Con! They sound like so much fun! I love Kennedy Ryan's books! I need to check out Hook Shot.Did you enjoy No Place Like Here? I think that book sounds so good! I hope you enjoy your three day weekend and get to read and relax to your heart's content :)
ReplyDeleteLindy@ A Bookish Escape
I like BookCon better than BookExpo, because I like all the panels, and since I don't enjoy reading physical books, BEA is kind of a waste for me. Kennedy Ryan knows how to write super emotional stories. I got to the most heartbreaking part this morning on my walk. I was crying and walking.
DeleteOh, the ice cream truck music would drive me batty, too! I'm wondering if you can report the constant disturbance so he can't park in front of your residence?
ReplyDeleteI've never been to Book Expo but I've been to several ALAs. You can get a ton of ARCs there and I don't remember it being expensive to get in. The thing that cost me a lot was the hotel and airfare. Still, I was glad to visit Chicago for the first time and Seattle is always a favorite stop for me, so that trip was awesome, too.
I have Passion on Park Avenue too. Glad to see your 4 stars! I hope I like it too. :)
My daughter said the same thing about the ice cream truck. I just want to run out and egg it. He's not in front of my home, but on a nearby street, where he lingers. I heard Midwinter is going to be in Philly, which is about the same distance to me as NYC (40-ish minutes). So, I was considering it. The only problem is if there is weather (that happened to me the year Apollycon was in Phyilly, and I couldn't go *sad face*)
DeleteMy work has been pretty slow lately too, so this three day weekend is quite nice. I'm not getting as much reading in as I'd hoped, but fingers crossed I can find more time to read this week!
ReplyDelete-Lauren
www.shootingstarsmag.net
You have been going to see films and stuff though, so at least you were doing fun things instead of reading.
DeleteYea for the three day weekend!!
ReplyDeleteI had two days off in the beginning of the month, but it's felt like forever since I had just a day to sit and breathe.
DeleteI'm not quite sure what that cat is thinking!!!
ReplyDeleteThat cat looks totally zen
DeleteEnjoy your long weekend! I don’t get one of those because I work at a State Park. I get to deal with all of the wild people who are enjoying their long weekend. I’m beyond exhausted right now. Have a good week!
ReplyDeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
Good luck out in the wild today! I hope you at least have amazing weather to enjoy as you keep them all in line.
DeleteWhat a brilliant week it was in books Sam, so many wonderful new reads and glad it looks like you've found some new favourites. That cat's face! What on earth is a pet dryer though? It looks like a microwave.
ReplyDeleteIt is a scary contraption, but seeing those results, I want to get one that's big enough for me.
DeleteOMG..that song was pure joy as a kid...now it makes me crazy! Hope your week is amazing!
ReplyDeleteThe ice cream man was like the pied piper, when I was a kid. Our's was a Good Humor man named Dan the Man. He was pretty good to us, but this guy, I don't know. He lingers too long.
DeleteDon't Date Rosa Santos was a life changing book for me! This book touched on issues that spoke so clearly to me and from the heart! It was also everything to meet her the first time! I am glad you read it!
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed Rosa a lot. I especially loved the community aspect of the story.
DeleteThe Iron Will has a great cover. I want to read I Wanna Be Where You Are at some point. It sounds awesome.
ReplyDeleteI Wanna Be Where You Are was wonderful! I love fun and adorable stories like that, and look forward to reading more from Forest.
DeleteYay for a three day weekend! I'm glad to see you enjoyed The Flatshare, because I'm planning on reading that soon! I also recently read Don't Date Rosa Santos and really loved it, about to go read your reviews for those two! I'm also planning on reading Kissing Ezra Holts soon. I really liked that author's previous book, and am hoping I love this one as well. Good luck with your reading this next week!
ReplyDeleteFlatshare was actually really, really good. I penalized it half a star, because I am so over politics creeping into places they don't belong. The book was set in London, yet there was mention, on more than one occasion, of American politics. It's a pet peeve of mine and instantly puts me off, but overall, it was a very good books.
DeleteHappy Book Con and 3 day weekend Sam!! I hope its fun and you get tons of books. I also got Iron Will and am soooo looking forward to getting back into that world. ❤️
ReplyDeleteMy 3-day weekend was nice. We will both have to keep an ear out to see how BookCon is next weekend. I miss going so much, and will have a good case of the jellies, but what can I do.
DeleteI hope your long weekend was a good one. I really don't want to go back to work today, lol. And I know what you mean about the ice cream truck. We have one that rolls through here all summer playing Christmas music and it drives me batty. Enjoy all of your new reads!
ReplyDeleteMy weekend was uneventful, relaxing, and all three books I read were winners. So, I rate it successful. The Christmas music would make me even more nuts. Now that you mention it, the truck parked near Millennium Park, when I was in Chicago, was playing Christmas music. What's that about?
DeleteYour ice cream man is making the rounds already?? I feel like I rarely hear that song. I do love an ice cream truck that does soft serve though!
ReplyDeleteNo. He's not making rounds. He is PARKING for 30-some-odd minutes like one or two streets over and making me nuts!
DeleteOh no, haha, I'm sorry about the ice cream truck. I'm kind of laughing at your pain, but that would definitely be madness-inducing. At least you're getting some reading done though!
ReplyDeleteI laugh about the ice cream man too - in a crazed, killer type way.
DeleteYAY!!! I am going to BookCon!! I have never been and I am not looking for books! I am looking for SWAG!!! I feel I can buy books myself but I can't get swag for the books anywhere. We shall see. I have no plan and the only two authors that I was able to snag and see was Joe Hill and James Murray. CAN'T WAIT!! =)
ReplyDeleteMary
I cannot wait to hear all about BookCon. I hope you and your daughter have an amazing time. There are some great panels to see this weekend. May the lines move quickly and the swag be abundant.
DeleteI hope you enjoy your three day weekend! I hope you enjoy the extra reading time at work as well, although I do guess slow days aren't all that fascinating. And I have been seeing the tweets from bookworms enjoying themselves... I would love to go someday but right now America is just too far away.
ReplyDeleteMy daughter even messaged me about how she is suffering from BEA FOMO. She doesn't read as much as she used to (working a lot), but she loved the energy of BEA. I think the next book festival I go to will be more low key. I enjoyed YallFest so much and would love to check out YallWest, but California is really far from me.
