My Week in Review
I had put all the names in, and I was pretty excited that Wendy won my birthday giveaway. It's nice that someone, who is a friend of the blog won, and I know she uses a lot of her own resources to outfit her classroom with awesome books for her students. So, the universe must have had a lot to do with this random pick.
This week dragged so much, and it took me four days to realize why I could not stay awake during the day - antihistamines. Looking for some sort of relief, I forgot the affect they have on me, and why I avoid taking them.
I got some nice BookMail this week. A finished copy of Amy and Craig for doing the blog tour. Now I have an ARC and a finished copy, yet I borrowed the book on Hoopla when I read it. Still nice to get the mail, since the publisher is one that auto-rejects me on EW and NG. 😂
Other than that, I have been winterizing. My snow boots came. My fall boots came. Got the gloves, scarves, and parka ready to go. Just have to get some leggings for under my dress pants, and I will be ready to go. It was 34 degrees Friday morning (61 in the afternoon). Winter is definitely on its way here in the northeast.
I am always jealous when I see those Fierce Reads boxes, and this picture of so many 2019 Fierce titles in one place had me salivating.

ReplyDeleteEvery girl I know read Judy Blume at school! I remember one girl got brave and bought Forever, and about ten of us borrowed it from her after that! I particularly enjoyed Blubber. I'm not sure about film versions of the books though...
I think I was about 15, and Forever was on the paperback rounder in the library. I had no idea it was teen erotica, when I took it out.
DeleteWow that's cold in the mornings. We got down to mid 30's today, we had a marching band invitational and had rain, even hail briefly, and it was just miserable. winter is on the way for sure!

DeleteIt snowed on me this morning while I ran! Not ready yet! I got out my boots also and had to get out my parka to try and stay warm while performing with a clarinet/flute ensemble outdoors during an art park opening ceremony (it was 41 degrees F and raining, but at least we had a tent to stay dry). Fierce reads does give us budget breakers, don't they!

DeleteYou have been busy. I was only able to read one this week and it was a pretty quick one but I have also started two others and have been reading Bring Me Back. What can I do. School comes first. Enjoy your week.

I read on my commute (3 hours a day) and listen to audiobooks at work. I like to fill in the time with books. School definitely ranks above pleasure reading.
DeleteBrr. Too cold for me! I got up this morning and we had a blast of fall move in. Around 60 right now and breezy. I plan to head outside and read shortly:) Enjoy those new reads.

I prefer digital books. I am actually going through the stacks in my room looking for MGs or appropriate YA books to send to Wendy for her classroom. At least the books would get read.

ReplyDeleteI agree. There are generations of readers that will revolt if the adaptation is subpar. Maybe that is why Blume refused to option it for so long.

ReplyDeleteI loved Bitter Spirits! The rest of the series is pretty good, too. Nice that you got an ARC from a publisher that usually shots you down on NG & EW. I'm hit or miss with what gets approved with EW. I have better luck with Netgalley. I didn't know Kate Meader had a new one coming. I'll have to hunt it down. Happy reading and stay warm, Sam! :)
Bitter Spirits is my first adult Bennett book, and it's really good. I think I love her YA books so much, because she appears to be a romance writer,

Honestly, I would rather be cold than hot. As long as there is no snow, which makes getting to work a struggle, I don't mind the cold, because I add more layers to stay warm. Now, when you're hot, there are only so many layers you can remove in public before you are considered indecent.
DeleteWinter is definitely on the way. I was so cold yesterday that I broke out all of my warm gear. Nice getting a finished copy..especially from a pubisher that can be hard to get approval from. Enjoy your new books and have a great week!

DeleteI love fall, but I hate when it's literally freezing in the morning and in the 60s in the afternoon. Makes it hard to get dressed! I loved This Adventure Ends, I hope you do, too!
ReplyDeleteSo hard to get dressed. Though, it dark when I leave for work and dark when I get home, so the warmth of the day occurs while I am at my desk these days. I am going to read both my Emma Mills books I have not read yet. Yeah, I read them backwards - Foolish Hearts was first, though, I have owned First & Then for quite a while.

DeleteOMG, those Fierce Reads ARC packages were so intense. I just stared intensely at all the unboxing on Instagram going, be chill and go add all of them to your TBR. I just love Bennett, and it doesn't seem to matter what she writes, because I am loving her adult paranormal as much as I adore her YA contemporaries.

DeleteI read Once Upon a Bride last week, and really loved it! I wish it was a full length novel because I love those characters so much. I'm intrigued to hear your thoughts on Jenn Bennet's paranormal romance, I've seen the book around and I love her YA stuff, but I'm not sure if I should read it or not lol. Looks like you had a really great reading week!
ReplyDeleteI am not normally a novella person, but everyone seemed to love Bride and it was free. I will tell you, Bennett brings the strong heroine and the sexy, just like she does in her YA, though this is a bit more sexy.

DeleteI also highly recommend Bennett's UF Arcadia Bell series. That's the series that made me fall in love with her before she started writing YA.

ReplyDeleteThe change of season is always a killer for me. I am enjoying Bitter Spirits. I am almost finished, and I can say it's everything I love in my romances plus ghosts, nefarious plots, and a little bit of history.
DeleteMaybe it's because I live in Brazil (where 10 out of the 12 months in the year it's uncomfortably hot and sunny), but I adore winter clothes. Getting to layer with flannels and jackets and wear boots without regretting it an hour later is an amazing feeling that I've come to love :)

DeleteI have Pulp but it is a shame that you didn't love it more! It still sounds like a decent read though... I'll have to look out for your review of it. I hope winterising and preparing for it goes well. And I also really am surprised that Are You There God is becoming a movie! I loved that book when I was younger and I can't wait to watch that ^.^
