Iconic Performances of the 2000s!
I don't care what anyone says, Anne Hathaway's performance in this film was not only Iconic but possibly her greatest work. Yes, I saw Les Mis, and while her performance of "I Dreamed a Dream" was certainly emotional and Oscar-worthy, her performance of "Somebody to Love" in Ella Enchanted was absolutely Iconic. I mean, when she let's down her hair??? And the dancing??? It's just so amazing.
With all the royal wedding hype, there was a Lifetime movie on where the girl finds out the guy is a prince and all I could think was, "Wow, this is like worse The Prince and Me" because really, this movie perfected the modern "didn't realize I was dating a prince" story and nothing else will ever come close. On a side note, shout out to Julia Stiles's equally Iconic performance in 10 Things I Hate About You (1999). She's just always Iconic, I guess.
Some might argue that Lindsay Lohan's most Iconic performance was in Mean Girls (2004), but I'm going to have to disagree with you. Honestly, the musical numbers in this movie are just so fantastic. All I wanted was for my school to do Eliza Rocks! as the school play because a rock musical adaptation of My Fair Lady just sounds amazing. I still think they're stupid for leaving their money on the train, but I'll forgive it because so many other elements of the movie are Iconic. I mean, the Santini-mobile??? Plus the song they played whenever Carla walked by???? Iconic.
Aquamarine is a particularly wonderful film because we get THREE of my faves in one movie. I mean, Sara Paxton AND Emma Roberts AND JoJo as best friends in one movie??? Also don't get me started on the t-shirt dress transformations and the mood-ring-esque nails and the starfish earrings that talked to her. There is so much Iconic in this movie, AND the soundtrack is amazing too. "Connected"??? Great song.
I don't care what anyone says, Go Figure is the best DCOM and you can't change my mind. Yes, High School Musical is great, but it doesn't have the girl power element of Go Figure. I love the hockey team's eclectic personalities, and Pamela is truly evil. AND another great soundtrack! Also, orange is also my power color, so I just feel like Katelin would be my best friend. BONUS: after years of not being able to watch this movie because it was never released for sale, it is now available on Amazon video. It's all very exciting.
Ok, so basically all of Amanda Bynes work is amazing: I mean, every single character she played on The Amanda Show was amazing (The Procrastinator is my spirit Amanda). The humor in this movie is truly Iconic, I mean chew like you have a secret??? Just all the funny parts where Viola is trying to act like a boy??? Amazing. I love it. Special mention for Sydney White (2007) because that film was also Iconic.
I don't know what 9-year-old me could relate to this movie but I loved it nonetheless. I absolutely loved Jennifer Garner acting like a 13-year-old who didn't know how to adult. I mean, she's just so fun the whole movie, and the "Thriller" sequence is Iconic for sure.
Ok, I think this one goes without saying. I mean, "What, like it's hard?" is such an Iconic line. But also here to remind everyone that Elle Woods deserved to get into Harvard - she got nearly a perfect score on her LSATs, graduated Summa Cum Laude with a business degree, and was president of Delta Nu, showing that she had exceptional leadership skills. It wasn't!!! Just because of her!!!! Story!!!! She earned that place!!!! She's forever an icon of girl power.
I love this movie so much, especially all the characters. I mean Casey is great of course - she's brilliant and passionate, and it's so amazing. But also Hayden Panettiere is incredible and the Jumping Shrimp was such a fun character (her stuffed animals were Iconic). Plus the music in this movie is amazing, when she falls during "Reaching for Heaven" and then gets up and finishes the performance with even more passion - truly Iconic.
I mean, how could Hilary Duff not be on this list. While I thought about including The Lizzie McGuire Movie (2003), I decided that Cadet Kelly was definitely more Iconic. I mean, not only do you get Hillary Duff twirling ribbons, but you also get Christy Carlson Romano who voice Kim Possible, and if Kim Possible isn't an icon then I don't know what animated character is.
I've heard that Ella Enchanted is a good movie, and I like Anne Hathaway. I liked Julia Stiles in the Bourne movies, and also in state & Main. And Reese Witherspoon is always awesome- i liked her in sweet Home Alabama too.
ReplyDeleteElla Enchanted is AMAZING!! I highly recommend it - I know it's on Netflix in the US for sure if you have that!
DeleteWell this is different! I loved Cadet Kelly and She is the man.

Such great movies, for sure!
DeleteI’ve seen Cadet Kelly at least a 100 times, my daughter loved this movie so much. Lol.. LEaglly Blonde is a great pick and so is 13 Going on 30 too.
ReplyDeleteThe 2000s had such great movies
DeleteThe Prince and Me (which is kind of in a way true to life now!) and ELLE are two of my favourite performances from the 2000s! Great idea sam!
ReplyDeleteI haven't seen ELLE - I'll have to check it out!
DeleteToo fun! I love almost all of these movies, but especially Cadet Kelly, She's the Man, Legally Blonde, and Aquamarine (I loved JoJo's music too).

I think it's such a travesty that Leave (Get Out) isn't on Spotify :(
DeleteHow is it that I haven't seen most of these?! Totally agree about Reese in Legally Blonde and Jennifer in 13 Going on 30. They were both amazing in those roles!
ReplyDeleteIf you like those I think you must add these to your watchlist!
DeleteI love Legally Blonde! It never fails to make me feel good on a bad day.
ReplyDeleteHere is our Top Ten Tuesday. Thank you!
Legally Blonde just has such great comedy in it!
DeleteI've seen most of these. Surprisingly, I've never seen Ella Enchanted! I'll have to watch is soon!
ReplyDeleteDefinitely check it out soon! I know it's on Netflix in the US.
DeleteI love this list! Although now I want to go on a 2000 movie binge.
ReplyDeleteDo it!!! I definitely need to rewatch these too!
DeleteYou just listed all the movies I adored when I was a kid! Hillary Duff was everything to me and as much as I like Anne Hathaway in Ella Enchanted (which I ended up watching when I was in my later teens) I prefer her in the Princess Diaries. Maybe that's nostalgia talking though :)
ReplyDeleteI do love the Princess Diaries, but I think I just can't get over the Somebody to Love sequence haha
DeleteTalk about going down memory lane!! I loved all of these movies!! You picked some truly great ones <3
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you like them as well! :)
DeleteI love 00's movies! They make up like half my DVD collection lol :)

SAME! All my movies are like 00s movies with some Disney and then some book adaptations :')
DeleteI love Legally Blonde, but I cannot wait to share Aquamarine with my niece. I recently watched The Princess Diaries with her and she loved it. Fun topic!
ReplyDeleteI'm embarrassed to say that I've actually not watched any of these movies. Sounds like I need to do a 2000s movie binge watch asap, lol.
ReplyDeleteIt's like you went into my brain and picked some of the most formative movies of my childhood!! The only one I haven't watched from this list is Go Figure, but all the others were staples. I was seriously contemplating watching Ella Enchanted the other day, and probably will now. That Somebody to Love scene...pure magic! (Literally and figuratively, haha!) Lola and her friend in Confessions of a Teenage Drama Queen were just idiots leaving their money on that train!! Ugh. I literally used to watch Ice Princess every week, and I even cajoled my mom into buying the CD when I was younger!
ReplyDeleteThis post made me want to revisit these movies! Great picks, and great post! :D
Oh man, I wanted to cry looking at these movies. Excepting two, I watched them ALL as a child and loved them all. These movies are literally my childhood DD: Nostalgia feels hitting me so badly right now. I totally agree, by the way.
ReplyDeleteI loved The Prince and Me and Ella Enchanted!
ReplyDeleteHaven't seen them in years... Must have a rewatch at some point.
I LOVED ELLA ENCHANTED! Man, this was such a throwback!
ReplyDeleteElla Enchanted is a fun movie - different from the book which is a favorite, but still great. I also just recently watched She's the Man for the first time - I was honestly surprised by how much I liked it!
ReplyDeleteGreat list. :)
