Books Set in Boarding Schools!
Not too long ago, I posted a Can't Wait Wednesday pick, and I discovered that I am not the only one who loves a boarding school setting. So, here are ten books I enjoyed, which were set in boarding schools.
Romancing the Throne has the added fun of the boarding school being abroad, in England, and one of the residents being the heir to the Throne.
This school is billed as "a boarding school for rich kids in the Pacific Northwest". With that we get some lovely scenery along with lots of the typical hijinks we expect.
This story takes place in an elite boarding school in California where debate is king. Many school rules are bent and broken by this crew and there is even a sort of heist.
Billed as a "reform school for wayward Prodigium". I loved roaming the halls of this old house along with witches, ghosts, faeries, shapeshifters, and ghosts.

Series: The Network Series, #1
Publisher: Antebellum Publishing
Deep in Letum Wood is a school where young witches hone their skills. These young witches are pitted against each other as they vie to be the lone student of Miss Mable.
This boarding school is in a gothic castle on southern coast of England. Abe often describes the beautiful backdrop, and the views sound quite breathtaking.
In Bloodlines, we are travel to a human boarding school in California, where all our MCs must carry on the rouse that they are related. I was torn between selecting this one of Vampire Academy, since both take place in boarding schools, but I went with this series, because I liked it better.
Gail Carriger
Series: Finishing School, #1
Publisher: Little, Brown Books for Young Readers
Mademoiselle Geraldine's is a finishing school, where young ladies are schooled in all the traditional areas such as dance, etiquette, and dress, but they also learn the tools to be great spies.
Brittany Cavallaro
Series: Charlotte Holmes, #1
Publisher: Katherine Tegen Books
Here we find ourselves in a Connecticut prep school, which is depicted in the most traditional way - old and filled with antiques. This school primarily caters to the uppercrust and it serves as an appropriate backdrop for this tale.
This is a campus I would love to see, as it is home to magical warriors. One can visit many magical artifacts in the Library of Antiquities or simply watch the various students wield their weapons.
Gah I am so jealous of your list right now!! I thought of doing this one only AFTER I had my list all made and the graphics loaded. Sigh. Anyway WINGER!!! I love that book. And Etiquette and Espionage was FUN!!
ReplyDeleteI love Ryan Dean! What stays with me is that chapter with just that single sentence. I couldn't believe how much impact Smith made, and I thought it was perfect. *tears* I love Carriger and I like following these characters through all the different age ranges. So fun!
DeleteI love a good boarding school read so this is an awesome topic! Touch of Frost is new to me but from your description it sounds like I need to take a look. Love the sound of that library! Bloodlines too.
ReplyDeleteI liked the Mythos series. An interesting ON series based on mythology. Lots of cool items with power in the library, which is also the site of many battles
DeleteI recently read a short story by Andrew Smith and loved his writing. After that I added Winger to my TBR. Hopefully, I will enjoy it just as much.
ReplyDeleteCarmen / Carmen`s Reading Corner
The Winger books are the only two I read from Smith, but they were very good. I definitely would read more from him.
DeleteFun list! I did enjoy Winger and Touch of Frost quite a bit. Boarding schools are a great way to get parents out of the story :)
ReplyDeleteExactly. No real supervision to keep the characters from getting into all sorts of stuff.
DeleteOOh nice! I enjoyed Hex Hall and Gail's YA series! I still need to read Jennifer Estep's! Great picks!
ReplyDeleteHere's my Tuesday Post
Have a GREAT day!
Old Follower :)
I love Carriger's books. She is one of my fave steampunk writers. Mythos was a fun series. Lots of interesting integration of mythology. I am still crossing my fingers that Hawkins will return to that Hex Hall spinoff she started before the Rebel Belle series.
DeleteAwesome set of books! I need to read all of these books!
ReplyDeleteHere’s my TTT!

If you read some, I hope you enjoy them!
DeleteThis is a great list! Most of the books I've read that have been set in boarding schools have been really enjoyable reads, I should read more! Romancing the Throne is one that I want to read soon. As well as The Duke of Bannerman Prep. : )
ReplyDeleteThank you for stopping by our TTT at Owl Always Be Reading!
Bannerman Prep was an excellent Great Gatsby re-telling, and Throne was a cute story of about sisters.
DeleteI LOVE a boarding school setting too. There are actually a lot here I haven't read though so I need to check them out!!
ReplyDeleteI am starting to feel like my books are like my music (slightly obscure). I like to love the less popular books, and if you read one of these and like it, I would consider that something special.
DeleteBoarding school settings are always fun and there are several here I didn't know about or had forgotten. Winger has been on my TBR for sooo long!
ReplyDeleteWinger. There was this one part that I thought Smith did so simply and beautifully, and now I have tears in my eyes. I sort of loved the Winger books, because Ryan Dean was such a guy, and I don't read tons of books (though I am trying to read more), where we have a male protagonists.
DeleteFun topic. I love books set in boarding schools and all of these are new to me so that's exciting :)
ReplyDeleteI have no idea why I love them, but I do. If you happen to read one of these, I hope you like it.
DeleteThis is a great list! I have been quite hit or miss with boarding school books, but I definitely want to try more of them! I haven;t read any of these, so now I have lots of options to choose from!
ReplyDeleteGlad I was able to supply some new options to your TBR. I sort of loved this list, because it showed I read more than just contemporaries.
DeleteI'm happy to see Winger make your list! Have you read the sequel too? :)
ReplyDeleteBy the way, I nominated you for the Mystery Blogger Award!
I did read both books. Stand-off didn't have the emotional impact of Winger (how could it?), but it was a interesting way to explore the fallout, and to see how Ryan Dean grew and changed. RD is a character I really like, and it was nice to spend time with him again.
DeleteI had a phase where I would only read books set in boarding schools! I loved the Mythos Academy Series & the Hex Hall series!
ReplyDeleteWhen I started pleasure reading again, I was reading all my daughter's books -- mostly YA and paranormal. There were a bunch of boarding school books in there. I am still hoping Hawkins continues the Hex spinoff.
