Sundays with Sam - The Sunday Post

Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Caffeinated Book Reviewer, where I can share my wrap up of the past week, as well as plans for the current week.

My Week in Review

Not much to report here. You know what they say, no news is good news. I think the best thing that happened, was that Christina Lauren saw my Can't Wait Wednesday tweet, and their publicist contacted me to give me a copy of Autoboyology. I was pretty excited, because I really want to read it, and I was hanging in approval limbo on NetGalley. So, that was awesome. If you are looking for Inclusive YA SFF books, Book Riot made this awesome list.

I saw this reading challenge from Read at Midnight, and I just had to do it. Is anyone else doing it? It looks like so much fun, and the art work is amazing!

And if anyone can think of a good YA book with a non-western setting, let me know. I need it for reading challenge. Thanks!

On the blog:

What I Read Last Week

I read five books and listened to two audiobooks. It was all romance this week, and I would say all the books were pretty good. One of my favorites was If Ever by Angie Stanton. I had read some of Stanton's YA book, and was excited to get a copy of her adult novel. It was so sweet and charming and fun.

What I Am Currently Reading

I am almost finished with my book, but have yet to start my new audiobook, as I usually listen to them at work. I am really enjoying the Glines book. This one has all the signature Glines elements, and I feel a sort of connection to the heroine. My next audiobook is another Walsh book. Canterbary has been planting the seed for this romance in the past two or three books. Erin is the most elusive Walsh and pairing her with the family best friend should be a heck of a story.

What I Plan to Read

I am finally letting myself read the new Krystal Sutherland book. It's so hard to wait until closer to publication, but now it is close enough. I am also doing a little shelf-love, and reading A Geek's Guide to Unrequited Love for a reading challenge.

  2. I have never done any book bingo/boards so that challenge looks like fun! :)

    1. I don't know, I sort of grew up in a bingo hall (I went to Catholic school, they are known to run bingo as a fundraiser), and I love it in all forms. My goal is always to fill the card though, and that extra element of having to find a book that fits is pretty fun.

  3. I'm definitely a believer in no news can be good news! That's especially awesome about Christina Lauren's publicist contacting you! Situations like that are always great. A Semi-Definitive List of Worst Nightmare is high up on my wish list so I'll be curious to hear your thoughts on it. Happy reading, and have a great week!

    1. Being part of a small blog, you don't get people contacting you. So I treasure each and every contact from an author or publisher. Semi-Definitive is slated for later this week, so there should minimally be a star rating up on GoodReads by Friday or so. Fingers crossed Sutherland dazzles me again.

  4. That challenge looks fun. I always want to try ones like it, but then I start to worry about another challenge to complete. LOL

    1. Honestly, I do the challenges, but I don't do the sign ups. I just love them giving me some added fun with my reading.

  5. That's so awesome about Christina Lauren helping you get the book! I know you were really excited for it. I'm thinking of doing Aentee's reading challenge, but haven't decided yet. I'm not very good with challenges unfortunately.
For non-western settings, have you read Of Metal & Wishes? Or In a Perfect World by Trish Doller?
You've read such great romances this week!
I hope you have a great week ahead, Sam! :)

    1. I actually have Of Metal & Wishes! I spent an hour this morning scouring the internet for suggestions, and found one on my TBR which looked good - Ink by Amanda Sun. Now I have options, even better!

    1. I know. It was a serious highlight for me. There are so many awesome books that I want to read and I actually have, but it's that weekly struggle to pick the four I will show some love to.

  7. The Quest Board looks like fun.

Your books look tempting...I see a Jill Shalvis book, an author I've been wanting to read. I have Lost and Found Sisters on my Kindle.

Enjoy your week, and here are MY WEEKLY UPDATES

    1. Jill Shalivs is one of my faves for that light and breezy type romance with the guaranteed HEA. I love them! She always builds these towns that are so charming, I want to live there, and be friends with all the people we meet in the books. I have not read Lost and Found Sisters, but I have heard it was good.

  8. Congrats on getting contacted by the publisher! Thats seriously awesome. I just love when authors take notice of blogger posts like that. That quest board is super cool too. I think you will have fun with that.
    Have a great week!

    1. First Paula Stokes and now this. It's so nice! Now that I found a non-western book (and then Nick suggested one, which I actually own), I feel like I can plan out this new challenge. Hey, it keeps me out of trouble.

  10. Wow, that reading challenge looks amazing. I probably won't do it since I'm already in the middle of two challenges, but I will definitely keep it in mind in the future.

That's so great about that publicist reaching out to you to get you a copy of that book. I love it when things like that happen.

    Have a wonderful week!

    1. We are a small blog, so we don't get "reached out" to, so yeah, needless to say, I was ecstatic. I am usually pretty lucky on EW/NG, but it's pretty awesome to get such love from the authors. This reading challenge is only a month long, and I easily fit ARCs I have to read into the categories. I just can't pass up a reading challenge.

  11. That looks like such an awesome challenge. I've got so many going but it is tempting. Great news on getting a much wanted book - that's always fun. I plan on reading The Luster of Lost Things this month too.

    1. We will have to compare notes on Luster. Every time I see a reading challenge, I cannot help but join in. However, I don't "officially" join. I keep track on my challenges page, but I don't throw my hat in for the prizes (if there are any). I cannot keep up with the check-ins.

  12. Congrats on Autoboyology! And I love the artwork on that challenge- it looks so fun! Looks like a pretty good reading week as well.

    1. I almost cried when I got that email about Autoboyology. That has never happened before. The artwork is incredible, right? I OD'ed on romance last week, so I thought I should throw in a little something different for this week. XD

  13. That quest looks fun and I love the artwork on the board. I've done board/bingo challenges before and they are fun. It's fun looking through your stacks of books to find the perfect one for each theme. I also have the Geek's Guide sitting on my shelf. I've been wanting to read that book and I hope you enjoy it. Have a great week!

  15. Congrats about getting the ARC! I'm glad you're doing that readathon - it's so cool! I really wanted to, but just couldn't squeeze it into my plans. It's got to be the coolest readathon I've ever seen though, and I hope you enjoy it :)

    1. I usually only get ARCs when I request through NG/EW, so it was a treat to get one from publicist, and I thought it was awesome that the authors were involved. So nice of them.

  19. That is *so* awesome how you got a copy of Autoboyography! Go you!
I just heard about The Reading Quest a few days ago from a BookTuber I follow. I don't plan on doing the challenge/game (just no time) but it looks like a lot of fun! So creative and the quests are so varied. The only YA I can think of with a non-Western setting is one called Ink, I think by Amanda Sun. I believe it takes place in Japan.
I'm not familiar with Kate Canterbary - will have to look her up.
Hope your week is off to a great start, Sam!

    1. Tanya! You read my mind!!! I ended up finding that book on my TBR and on Hoopla (after a long search). I think I will really like it. If you like a sexy-smexy romance and siblings, you should like these. I have to say, the sister's have the best books. Book 4 was the de facto matriarch's book, and this one is the little sister's. My jaw was on the ground about 2 or 3 mins in. It was such a HUGE reveal.

    2. OMG that is so crazy you were already looking for Ink!! Yet again, we are on the same wavelength. :)
And now you have me totally interested in that Canterbary series, I'm off to GR to look into it now.

    1. I follow tons of blogs with seemingly millions of followers, and they get BOXES of books sent to them. These sorts of things don't happen on this little blog, so yeah, I was ecstatic. I got approved on NG for Disney book today too, so I am thinking the four horsemen must be coming soon, because Disney ALWAYS denies my requests. I don't know....

  21. Wow, check you out getting approved for a book you were looking forward to! A quiet week is not a bad thing. Enjoy it! I'm also doing The Reading Quest, it looks awesome and the artwork is so pretty. I'm really excited for it, even if I'll be away when the challenge ends. Hopefully it'll clear a few books off of my shelf.
