Waited on by: Sam
When Eliza Hart, the most popular girl at Ventana Ranch boarding school, is found dead on the cliffs outside her dormitory, Ellie Sokoloff is determined to figure out what happened to her. After all, Eliza was Ellie’s childhood best friend. This one just came on my radar, and I immediately added it to my TBR. I really liked Second Star. I thought it was an interesting retelling, and although I read in back in 2014, I hold fond feelings about it. My interest in reading more from this author combined with the description for this book, I sort of couldn't resist.
Never mind that ever since Ellie arrived at school Eliza has spread terrible rumors about her, calling her a liar and a stalker, when all Ellie wanted to do was rekindle their old friendship. Or that Ellie’s claustrophobia limits where she can go and what she can do. Or that Ellie’s suitemate, Sam, is the only one who will help her . . . because to everyone else, Ellie looks like the top suspect.
Can Ellie clear her name and solve the mystery behind Eliza’s death? Her hunt for the truth will uncover secrets she never imagined, sending her deep into her own memories of her childhood with Eliza Hart.
New York Times bestselling author Alyssa Sheinmel delivers a gripping mystery and a sensitive and moving examination of the secrets that can hold us back—and even destroy us.
It is set in a boarding school. I don't know if it's just me, but since I did not attend boarding school, there is this mystique about them that I cannot resist. I also sort of wished I attended the Eastland School on the Facts of Life or Blake Holsey High or House of Anubis or Zoey 101. Wow! I have watched a lot of TV shows with boarding school!
Anyhow, there is also the dead body thing. A well place corpse is always interesting. Finally, we have a person trying to prove her innocence. These the makings of a great YA mystery, and I could use my mystery in my life.
What are you waiting on?

Haha, I used to watch Zoey 101 (don't think I know of the others - ooh, House of Anubis sounds familiar). This sounds pretty interesting. I like a good tense murder mystery, hope it's a good one! Great pick, Sam. Hadn't seen this before!
ReplyDeleteCass @ Words on Paper
Yeah, the teen pregnancy cutting Zoey short was quite unfortunate. *sad face* Although I don't read a lot of mysteries, I always seem to enjoy them.
DeleteThis looks so amazing! I also love books set in boarding schools, and I adore this cover too.
ReplyDeleteGreat pick. Hope you get to read it soon and enjoy it!

What is with us and boarding schools? It must be that it's just not regular high school and no parents.
DeleteI haven't read this author before but agree I love ay boarding school stories. Great pick!
ReplyDeleteDo you think boarding school students are as enamored with regular high school books? I have always wondered.
DeleteI agree with you on boarding schools. There's just something about them that is so fascinating to me. (Talking about boarding school books have you read Lauren Miller's Free to Fall? It contains a boarding school for the super talented and rich. Plus it has secret societies and teachers that may or may not be killers. It's amazing!) Anyhow, this one sounds really good. I've been loving mysteries lately so that aspect really appeals to me. Awesome pick!
ReplyDeleteLauren @ Lauren's Crammed Bookshelf
I actually just read my first Miller book, All Things New, but now I really want to read Free to Fall.
DeleteSounds like a really good read and it's new to me as well. Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteI am trying to broaden my reading a little, and it sounds like a great mystery
DeleteI love stories set in boarding schools, I'm not sure why! This sounds really good, thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteIt is just boarding school mystique. 😊

ReplyDeleteJenea's Book Obsession's Can't-Wait Wednesday
I forget how I stumbled upon this, and I am happy, because I think it could be really great, and I like the author. Hoping for the best!
DeleteI'm with you on the mystique of boarding school, Sam! There's just something about a boarding school setting that always hooks me, no matter the genre. I may have to pick this one up!
ReplyDeleteEvery. Time. Right? I try to pick CWWs that have close release dates so I don't have to wait too long.
DeleteI loved Zoey 101!! Also, House of Anubis was my guilty pleasure. The acting was SO bad; I loved it! I actually made fan shirts of the show with my friends back in the day. Great pick this week! I'm adding this to my TBR. :)
ReplyDeleteGenni @ Ready, Set, Read!
I loved Anubis and the overlap with actors from Blake Holsey was a bonus.
DeleteThis one is new to me but I like the sound of it. I still have an unread arc of Second Star that I should before moving on to this new one.
ReplyDeletePeople were all over the place with Second Star, but I really liked it. I thought it was such an original and interesting spin on Peter Pan, and it hinted to those darker parts of the original.
DeleteOooh! This one sounds really interesting! Great pick!
ReplyDeleteHere’s my WoW !

I'm excited about it.
DeleteBooks set in boarding schools always intrigue me too. I love a good mystery too so may have to pick this one up when it comes out. Thanks for putting it on my radar!
ReplyDeleteThe mystery of boarding schools, and why we love books set there so much would be a great topic to explore. =)
DeleteOh man. I love books set in boarding schools! I haven't read one in a long time though - it's like they have disappeared from YA. I hope you enjoy this book when you get the chance to read it!
ReplyDeleteHave a lovely week, Sam. =)
Alyssa @ The Eater of Books!
I read a few recently. Why I Loathe Sterling Lane was pretty good and The Duke of Bannerman Prep was great. Noteworthy was in a boarding school too, also good. I don't look for boarding school books, but I do like the extra something they give a story.
