This post is for sharing what I read last week, what I am currently reading, and what I plan to read.
What I Read Last Week
I didn't read as many books as I expected, since ACOWAR was such a beast, but I did enjoy my reading greatly. Julie James delivered, as always, with great characters, a fun story, and even P&P references. I was pleased with the direction that SJM took the story in ACOWAR. The battle portion resulted in many tears for me, but I still did not feel that the book had the impact of ACOMAF. ACOWAR was a solid addition to the series, but it was following such a strong book. Saints and Misfits was a fabulous #OwnVoices debut from SK Ali, which had a lot of really meaningful messages.
In other news, I finally completed my Reading Challenges page. Sure, it took me five months, but it's done!
- Practice Makes Perfect by Julie James - ★★★★
- Follow Me Back by AV Geiger - ★★★★
- Boomerang by Noelle August - ★★★
- A Court of Wings and Ruin by Sarah J. Maas - ★★★★
- Saints and Misfits by SK Ali - ★★★★
- Everything All at Once by Katrina Leo - ★★★★ 1/2
What I Am Currently Reading
- Audiobook: Into the Deep by Samantha Young
- Book: Wayfarer by Alexandra Bracken
What I Plan to Read
So, I believe the universe wants me to read The Unlikelies, because like Daughter of the Pirate King and Spellbook for the Lost and Found, I received a physical copy the very same day I was approved for a DRC. I don't know, three times seems meaningful.
- The Unlikelies by Carrie Firestone
- That Thing We Call a Heart by Sheba Karim
- 16 Ways to Break a Heart by Lauren Strasnick
What are you reading?
Let us know in the comments!
Phew! That's a lot happening in terms of reading! I remember Boomerang - the series overall is just okay, nothing great. I loved Wayfarer though. The cover is GORGEOUS. :D Happy reading, Sam!
ReplyDeleteHave a fantastic week. =)
Alyssa @ The Eater of Books!
Boomerang was OK with some great moments. It worked well as an audiobook for me, since I listen as I do other things. I really liked Passenger and it's time to find out how this ends.
DeleteOMG You already read Court of Wings & RUin!! My copy didn't arrive yet :(
ReplyDeleteMy It's Monday! What Are You Reading? post.
Oh no! Sorry to hear you did not get it yet. I did a digital pre-order, so it was waiting for me on my Kindle last Tuesday. I hope you get your book soon. I think you will be pleased with where the story went.
DeleteI've been noting books that take on internet and social media, so I registere dFollow me back immediately. What a complictaed plot that is, and a great book!
ReplyDeleteI requested it, because it sounded really interesting. It was a lot more romantic than I expected, but I didn't mind, because I love romance (it's my #1 genre). I have to give Geiger props for that ending. It came out of nowhere.
DeleteBoth Passenger and A Court of Wings and Ruin are on TBR mountain. I'm kept busy reading review books and don't get a chance to grab a book off the mountain as often as I'd like. Come see my week here. Happy reading!
ReplyDeleteI also have many, many DRCs to read, but I promise myself one book per week from my own shelf or the library. I read Passenger almost 2 years ago, it was time to finish the duology, and I was so floored by ACOMAF, I had to read ACOWAR.
DeleteI am reading ACOWAR and I do not want it to end! I'm so afraid of what will happen!!
ReplyDeleteI have The Unlikelies to read and you have me intrigued with Saints and Misfits! Will be checking that out.
Have tissues handy for when the big battle goes down. It was tough. I am doing a blog tour for The Unlikelies, but I really wanted to read it. It sounds like my sort of book. I have to say, Ali is a great new voice for YA, and I love that she is giving us muslim rep, because everybody wants to read a book and see part of themselves in it.
DeleteOh my gosh, you did a serious amount of reading last week! With the size of ACOWAR I'm surprised you read anything beyond that! I haven't started it yet... I'm considering doing a reread (on audio this time) of ACOMAF just to refresh my memory.
ReplyDeleteDon't let my list fool you, the two romances were audio. I actually read less books than I normally do, but ACOWAR was quite large, and I read SFF slower than contemporaries. I admire you folks who re-read. I remember my daughter doing that for every new Shadowhunters book, and my sister did it for every new Harry Potter book. I just want to read EVERYTHING, so no time for re-reads. =)
DeleteI am the same, Sam! I have never been a rereader. There's not enough time to read all the books as it is so who has time to reread?! But I make very, very rare exceptions.:)
DeleteCongratulations to your daughter.
ReplyDeleteIt was another busy week but I did manage to finish some books. Come see what I'm reading.
I cannot believe my baby is going to be a college graduate! It's been a beautiful journey with her.
DeleteI don't typically read a lot of YA, but boy oh boy, am I seeing A Court of Wings and Ruin on every blog I visit these days! :-)
ReplyDeleteI personally do not classify the ACOTAR books as YA. Feyre, the main character, was 19 at the start of the series, and everyone else is 500+. But, yeah, it was all over the place. SJM had a huge fanbase, as well as tons of haters, but I guess that comes with the territory.
DeleteGood to hear you enjoyed the Julie James book, I am eyeing up her latest and thinking I should buy it!
ReplyDeleteThe Thing About Love was great! It had all the trademarks of a James book, and I really loved the MCs and their history. Like I said, I will read anything she writes, because she always delivers something fun and entertaining for me.
DeleteOkay, is it me or are all YA titles starting to sound alike? Lots of "Things" and "Hearts"
ReplyDeleteJust Finished That Thing We Call a Heart and really enjoyed it!
Jen @ YA Romantics
Of course you are reading a book I will soon be reading. This keeps happening to us. =)
DeleteYou had me intrigued with the "Things" and "Hearts" thing, so I checked my spreadsheet. Things I Should Have Known, The Last Thing You Said, Definitions of Indefinable Things, The Thing About Love, The Moment of EveryTHING, Other Breakable Things, AnyTHING You Can Do, I Believe in a Thing Called Love, EveryTHING All at Once. I can't stop! Make it stop! =P
I adore the cover to 'A Court OF Wings And Ruin' and 'Into the Deep' By Samantha Young seems interesting C:
ReplyDeleteI saw someone talking about how ugly it is, and I think it's pretty. I love that SJM selected fan art, and Feyre was painting this picture in the book. I have heard so many raves about Samantha Young, I saw this audiobook on Hoopla, and I thought, why not. I really liked it. It one of my favorite kind of romance, the old second chance. I love the history that come with second chance (and usually friends to lovers too). I will definitely be checking out book 2 of this series.
DeleteYou really got a lot read last week. Good for you. I still need to read the Maas series. Hopefully, I can get to it soonish. I would really like to get my hands on a copy of The Unlikelies - it sounds great!
ReplyDeleteI got through an extra audio book, but actually read 1 less book than normal. I am hoping The Unlikelies lives up to its synopsis.
DeleteGlad it was a good reading week! ACoWaR looks fun i really should Maas one of these days. And I hope The Unlikelies is good! I just went over to read the blurb and now I might have to try that one.
ReplyDeleteI was happy to be doing The Unlikelies tour, because it sounds great. I should be starting it tonight or tomorrow. I think I can finish Wayfarer on the train.
DeleteI received review copies of Sarah Maas' novels - and I am wondering when I'd find the time to finally get into it. Hopefully soon. :)
ReplyDeleteThat thing is a monster! I read during my commute each day, which guarantees me 3 solid hours daily. Good luck and enjoy!
